Alexandra Strong, CPD
Hello dear parents (to-be)!
I am Alex. I currently live in Minneapolis with my son Liam and our sweet dog, Fonzie. I'm passionate about life, birth, wellness, and art. As you have noticed by now, I'm a Birth and Postpartum Doula as well as a Photographer, Certified Massage Therapist, and Yoga Teacher (220 RYT).
When it comes to being a Doula, I certainly believe training and education are important, but I also believe that character plays one of the biggest roles in making a great doula. I have always been a nurturing, compassionate, and supportive being. I have spent the last 12 years of my life in one care-giving role or another. I have experience caring for humans of all ages; newborns, children, new moms and dads, as well as elders! As a Postpartum Doula, I have served over 40 families. As a Birth Doula and Photographer, I have had the honor of attending approximately 18 births. Being a mother has also gifted me with firsthand experience!
I believe that birth is sacred and that each experience is unique. I also believe that birth is normal and not to be feared. Humans have been birthing since the beginning of time and it is a fact that our bodies know how to give birth. Birth is also an experience that mothers will remember for the rest of their lives; I have worked with many elderly women and I am always amazed how they can remember their birth stories with great detail. Ultimately, my goal as a birth doula is for moms and dads to feel informed and supported during their journey into parenthood. I feel it is my duty to support women in finding the existing wisdom and power within them so that they can have a positive birthing experience – whatever that looks like for them. I am also there to support the partner. Partners play a very important role in the birthing experience and they sometimes need guidance, support, and encouragement as well. It is my goal to help parents welcome their babies into the world in a positive, loving, and supportive environment.
Although part of my role is to offer evidence-based information and education, I will always be supportive and non-judgmental of your informed decisions. You know yourself and your family better than anyone and I respect that above all. As your birth doula, I will use my intuition to assess the environment and every situation during your labor to offer support, suggestions, or space. Throughout your labor, I will provide continuous emotional and physical comfort and support. I will be there for whatever you need - be it reminding you to focus on your breath, offer hydration or nutrition, provide gentle massage, tell you how wonderful of a job you’re doing, or to just quietly hold space. As I mentioned before, I'm there for your partner, as well. They need support and breaks for food and sleep so they can maintain their health and energy. Once your baby comes Earthside, I am able to assist with establishing bonding and breastfeeding and will stay with you for 1-2 hours or until you and your partner are comfortable with me leaving.
It is truly an honor to do this work. Childbirth is a life-changing experience, and I am so grateful to the parents and families who choose me to assist them in bringing their children into this world in a positive, empowering, and safe way. Thank you a million times for trusting in me and allowing me to be a part of your story.
Please reach out to me with any questions or if you would like to set up a time to meet!
